SUMMARY:Business Safety Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Many people spend a good portion of their time at work. This means it's just as important to use crime prevention skills in the workplace as it is at home and in the neighborhood. Whether the place of business is corporate headquarters\, a local restaurant\, an auto repair shop\, or a person's home\, common-sense prevention skills can make the workday safer for everyone.\n\n\n\nIn this workshop\, Lt. Brad Smith will help business professionals understand what their rights are when handling unwanted visitors and will share tips on crime prevention for small businesses. Join us for the first half\, second half\, or the whole presentation and leave with the knowledge and empowerment to make your workplace the safest it can be.\n\n\n\nUnwanted visitors\n\nAs Cape Girardeau continues to grow\, we are experiencing both the benefits and drawbacks of a larger metropolitan area. The first half of the workshop will focus on the following topics:\n\n\n\n- Is it rude to ask homeless people to leave the business?\n\n- How is loitering defined in Cape Girardeau?\n\n- Can you loiter on a sidewalk?\n\n- Can you loiter on private property?\n\n- Peace disturbance\n\n- Trespassing\n\n\n\nCrime prevention for small businesses\n\nIf you own or manage a business\, the fear of a burglary\, a robbery or a major shoplifting loss is probably never far from your mind. Most often these are crimes of opportunity. They happen because the criminal spots an easy chance and takes it. So make it tough on him or her - the latter half of this workshop will teach you how.\n\n\n\n- Keep your store organized and products well-placed\n\n- Identify common shoplifting methods and traits\n\n- Leverage coordinated customer service to your advantage\n\n- Optimize your store's design and layout for theft prevention\n\n- Signage\, signage\, signage\n\n- Install surveillance equipment\n\n- Other options\n\n\n\nQuestions?
