Description
The Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce has partnered once again with the Missouri Chamber Foundation to bring the Show Me Careers: Educator Experience to Southeast Missouri this summer the week of June 26 - 30, 2023. The statewide program was developed by the Missouri Chamber Foundation in 2018 to help bridge the gap between the business and education communities in a localized, intentional professional development program.
The objective of Show-Me Careers is to expose Southeast Missouri middle and high school educators, counselors and administrators to career pathways in targeted industries where current and future job shortages are identified. The program consists of employer tours, activities, discussions and trainings to immerse participants in various career pathways. During which time they will develop curriculum that they can utilize to integrate relevant career perspectives into classroom learning and day-to-day student interaction. Participants are also encouraged to think broader as to how systemic adoption of career pathways can be internalized and integrated back in their respective schools and districts.
Show-Me Careers has been endorsed by and is supported, in part, by the Missouri Dept. of Elementary and Secondary Education to effectively build knowledge and capabilities of education professionals taking part in the program. The Cape Chamber feels strongly that by being a lead partner in this effort, it will better help our student’s career pathway needs by bringing the knowledge of local business and industry directly to key educators, counselors and administrators within the region.
If you are an educator, we encourage you to assemble a team and sign up to participate in the program!
- Ideally, district or building level teams will have between 3 – 5 participants when applying as a team. Typically, smaller districts or building level teams will consist of a minimum of 1 educator, 1 counselor, and 1 administrator, with larger districts forming a team of 5 - 3 educators, 1 counselor, and 1 administrator. Selections will take into account multiple district applications on final acceptance counts. Individuals will not be accepted into the program for this year.
- A $750 stipend will be provided to each participant that completes the program in the summer.
- All materials, meals and travel to the industry partners will be provided to the participants as part of the program.
- Team Applications are due on March 1, 2023.
