Medical Director

The Lutheran Home is seeking a dedicated and experienced Medical Director to provide clinical leadership across our continuum of care, including Skilled Nursing (SNF), Assisted Living (AL), and Independent Living (IL). This physician leader will play a key role in enhancing resident outcomes, strengthening quality initiatives, and guiding clinical oversight within our campus community.

 

This is a contracted (1099) independent contractor position.

 

This position combines medical director responsibilities, regulatory and quality oversight, and primary care services for residents.

 

Position Overview

The Medical Director provides clinical leadership and oversight for resident care, works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team, and supports the facility’s Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program. The role focuses on improving quality measures, enhancing care processes, and ensuring regulatory compliance while promoting the highest possible quality of life and health outcomes for residents.

 

Key Responsibilities

·       Provide medical direction and clinical leadership for the Skilled Nursing & Assisted Living communities.

·       Serve as the primary care physician for the majority of the long-term care residents. All long-term care residents utilizing the medical director as their primary care physician, must be evaluated in-house every 60 days per regulation.

·       Act as the supervising/collaborating physician for our in-house nurse practitioners, providing clinical guidance and oversight.

·       Participate in and support the facility’s Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program, with a focus on improving CMS quality measures and resident outcomes.

·       Provide a minimum of 10 hours per month of regulatory and administrative medical director involvement, including participation in:

o   Quality assurance meetings

o   Care policy review and development

o   Clinical process improvement initiatives

·       Assist leadership with review and response to regulatory complaints, grievances, and clinical concerns.

·       Provide guidance on care policies, protocols, and evidence-based clinical practices.

·       Collaborate with administration, nursing leadership, and the interdisciplinary team to ensure high standards of resident-centered care.

·       Participate in strategic planning initiatives related to clinical quality, infection prevention, and resident safety.

·       Promote a culture focused on clinical excellence, regulatory compliance, and compassionate care.

 

Qualifications

·       MD or DO with active Missouri medical license.

·       Board certification in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Geriatrics, or related field preferred.

·       Experience in long-term care, geriatrics, or post-acute care strongly preferred.

·       Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary care environment.

·       Strong communication, leadership, strategic planning, and interpersonal skills.

 

Certification Requirement

·       Completion of the virtual Certified Medical Director (CMD) Program offered by PALTmed within one year of hire.
