SUMMARY:
The Food Sourcing Manager – Agriculture & Manufacturing Partnerships is responsible for developing and managing relationships with farmers, growers, food manufacturers, and processors to secure donated and low-cost food for distribution. This role plays a critical part in increasing the volume, variety, and nutritional quality of food sourced to support the food bank’s mission. The Food Sourcing Manager directly contributes to increasing food access by securing high-quality, nutritious food from agricultural and manufacturing partners, helping ensure that individuals and families facing food insecurity receive the support they need.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Relationship Development & Management
- Identify, cultivate, and maintain partnerships with local and regional farmers, growers, packers, and food manufacturers
- Serve as the primary point of contact for agricultural and manufacturing donors
- Conduct regular outreach through visits, calls, and industry events
- Solicit food drive partnerships throughout the service area
- Secure donations of surplus, grade-out, and unsold food products
- Assist in the purchase of food products, including identifying opportunities and coordinating with vendors
- Assist in negotiating pricing, terms, and agreements for purchased food
- Negotiate favorable pricing for purchased product when applicable
- Coordinate bulk purchasing opportunities and salvage programs
- Monitor crop cycles and production trends to identify sourcing opportunities
- Collaborate with transportation and warehouse teams to coordinate pickups and deliveries
- Ensure timely movement of perishable and non-perishable products
- Assist in developing efficient supply chain solutions for large-scale donations
- Track donations, purchases, and partner activity in internal systems
- Analyze sourcing trends and identify opportunities for growth
- Prepare reports on pounds sourced, cost savings, and partner engagement
- Ensure all sourced food meets food safety and quality standards
- Maintain knowledge of regulatory requirements related to food donation and distribution
- Represent the food bank at agricultural, manufacturing, and industry events
- Stay informed on industry trends, supply chain disruptions, and market conditions
- Promote the food bank’s mission and donor impact
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Business, Supply Chain, or related field preferred; equivalent combination of education or relevant experience
- 3+ years of experience in food sourcing, procurement, agriculture, manufacturing, logistics, sales, or a related field involving supplier/vendor relationships—including merchandising
- Experience working with growers, producers, food manufacturers, distributors, or retail partners strongly preferred
- Familiarity with agricultural systems, food distribution, or supply chain operations a plus
- Strong relationship-building and negotiation skills
- Knowledge of agricultural production cycles and/or food manufacturing processes
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data tracking systems
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regionally
- Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends for events or donor needs
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Ability to work in warehouse and outdoor environments as needed
